Being Satisfied With Yourself
To be able to be satisfied with yourself, to be content in all things is an admonition that Paul gave us in Hebrews 13:5, where he says to “be content with such things as ye have”. In the time and day that we live in, we see unhappy and unsettled people all around us….why?
It seems that a culture has been bred that promotes, even encourages, to get, get, get. This “getting” can cause much discontentment and dissatisfaction. It appears that even when we have more, we desire more. When we get more, we becoome even more dissatisfied. Not the way it’s supposed to be.
It is human nature, a sin nature that causes us to want more, more, more. But end the end of this wanting is more dissatisfaction. Things don’t make us happy….they just pacify us. Yes, while it’s pleasureable to enjoy the finer things of life, we must keep in perspective that these “things” aren’t the magic to our satisfaction; we are.
In order to be totally happy and content, we must be driven by our inner need for - self-satisfaction - and not seek it from external sources. Take time to enjoy everything that life has to offer. Everything. There is a world full of stimuli that money cannot buy, if we just take the time to notice it.
Our happiness doesn’t lie in things. It lies within ourselves.
